Q: Why make a whole website for a Hearts of Iron IV mod?
-
A: The purposes of the site ranges and was done for several reasons in mind, firstly, the site will be used as a designated centralized hub for developers, with modification tools present for ease of implementation, This would effectively eliminate the scattered development cycle that we have been facing with tasks, Google docs and the further development road. Another reason for the website is to expand our domain beyond the limitations of Discord or other platforms, also serving as a backup, a contingency for the development team and the community as a whole. Lastly, as stated before the website intends to be a centralized hub, this also is not limited to things such as a wiki, page, changelogs, the forums and a domain expansion of our lore in not just this mod only.
Q: Why does the site seem broken and in a unfinished state?
-
A: For the record, the site in its current state is experimental, most of the pages, other than the main page, changelogs and the forums have not been finished, this will of course be change nearing the release of the demo of the mod possibly around this Summer.
Q: Can't the Discord server pretty much do all the things mentioned?
-
A: For simplicity's sake I'll quote Olander for this: "Discord contributes to dead internet theory, asides from that I just felt like building a website to host webapps which Discord can’t do, as well as a forum for community stuff that will usually get buried on Discord. Discord honestly sucks for what it’s meant to do and was never meant to be designed around thousands of members in a single server. Anyway, either way, I just felt like making a website and I thought it was pretty cool. Having a webserver also allows you to host webapps like cryptpad, wiki.js, forums, etc, etc"
Q: Since a website is released, it implies the mod is nearing a release, when does it plan on releasing?
-
A: As previously mentioned, we're planning on a demo release this Summer, possibly around August, however due to time restraints and real life work this could possibly change, however I can't stress enough how much we're close to get this to the public, as all of this was done in a mere 7 months work.
